How to verify the customer's age?

Do's:

We recommend you wear a face covering

Stay 2 metres apart where possible

Ask the customer to hold up the ID so it's visible or ask the customer to place the ID on the floor and step back, so you can observe.

Once complete, record the DOB in the app, place customer's item(s) on the floor and step back.

❌ Dont's:

  • Do not open the package to check/confirm any age-restricted items. Your delivery invite already shown it will be an age-verified delivery. If you would like to double check, then look at the label/receipt, look for any stickers on the package or ask the member of staff at pick-up.

  • Do not handle the ID card - observe it from a safe distance. Look at the section above again to look at suitable options on how to check ID safely.

  • Do not complete the delivery if you were unable to verify the customers' age. If a customer fails age-verification, contact Support to schedule a return. You will be able to do it via the Stuart app.

Look out for any year before and including 2003 but also note that those born in 2004 will be turning 18 this year.

Some EU country passports will have the DOB on the right hand side, see examples below.

Biometric residence permit

DOB on the biometric residence permit is displayed on the back side of the document. Ensure to ask the customer to show you both sides when completing age-verified deliveries.

National identity card issued by a European Union member state (other than United Kingdom), Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Switzerland

DOB in the national ID will be in the middle of the document.

However, some countries might have DOB shown at the bottom of the document as shown below.

United Kingdom photocard driving licence / European Union photocard driving licence

Both UK and EU countries' driving licences show a person's DOB on the 3rd line of the licence.

Serving member of the HM Armed Forces ID card (Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force)

DOB on the HM Armed Forces ID cardiac be found in the middle of left hand side.

Photographic identity card bearing the national Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) hologram
